Interview: Producer series 003 - Zwan

Who are you and what do you do?

Im Robert from dresden; Germany. Im 22 and i produce (future) bass music. i also run Squelah409, a label/blog together with Yo_Merkz.

How did you get into Music production?
Im a music nerd since I was 6 or 7 seven years old. i always bought and listened to music. i was watching music television a lot in the past. I started buying old vinyls of pink floyd & the beatles when i was 13. My first computer was an iMac in 2005. That was the catch for me. Never did anything else then music production ever since. At the moment its all about setting up things for live gigs. Never thought about this in the past.

    Big Influences?
My biggest heroes in music are oasis, the beatles & pink floyd. Progressive rock has had a massive influence on me. Never ending synth intros and stuff, i love it. Since 2006 I was into the UK HARDCORE CONTINUUM. It started with dnb. In 2007 i explored dustep through skream, mala and dmz. After this moment, it was all about a nice bass, a nice snare and a good atmosphere.

    Any releases coming out?
I just released one proper record which includes a selection of the stuff i made in 2011. Its released on “Blutclot Records” Check: http://grindthieves.com/bludclot/?p=180
You favourite Radio station you wish you got your music played on?
Rinse.FM without a doubt. Best music radio station around, it also made me listen to stuff i wouldn’t listened without rinse.
Whats your favourite piece of audio hardware or VST plugin at the moment?

I produce with Ableton Live 8 + Reason 5. At the moment, i really love this KORG Legacy Synth Pack.

Perfect for some nice chords and stuff. I not a hardware user, but i love this little Korg Nano Kontrol ting.

    Any label release from squelah?
Yeah Mate, our first release was by Dj Puffin from sacramento, some experimental skwee synth/bass stuff. 002 will be a REAL BIG ONE by Brown Noise. 2-Step/Future Garage Vibezz!
5 things that come into your mind when you think about digitally disturbed?
We are part of a new generation which is just using the capabilities of the net. Everyone of us has a blog / label / twitter account, whatever. I love it. Thats whats i think when it comes to your blog, a bunch of people with the same musical interests connecting through the net. At the end its all one big scene.

Music: Download a Track from Sepalcure’s Forthcoming Album

With Sepalcure’s self-titled debut LP set to drop via the Hotfush imprint next Monday, November 21, the duo has one final piece of pre-promtion to share in the form of album cut “See Me Feel Me.” Following the video for “Pencil Pimp” and early leak “I’m Alright”, “See Me Feel Me,” which comes from the first half of Sepalcure, is one of the slower tracks found on the album, but is impressive none-the-less, with its dusty electric piano, infectious rhythms, and subdued, gloriously effected vocal spurts. You can download the tune for the price of your email address, below.

Event: Basslaced and Regulate at Cable Friday 18th November

This November BassLaced returns to Cable to inject some more of their fun fuelled energy into London Bridges no1 venue. This time round it’s a night of cross genre madness with veterans and new school alike.

Top of the bill is jungle legend Shy FX whose Digital Soundboy imprint has firmly established his position as a pillar of the UK bass music movement. Accompanying him is label mate Redlight who’s had a massive year with the likes of Source 16 and Progress smashing up the clubs up and down the country. Also making his way onto the bill is Kiss 100’s very own garage legend DJ EZ, need we say more about this man? Caspa’s right hand man The Others joins the party to rep the Dub Police flag while Yo Yo residents and party thrillers Greenmoney finish off yet another gross genre party mash up of line up.

Cable’s bar area is being hosted by West London crew Heads and Hands and after their they smashed things up back in August we had to call the lads back up to host the room once again.

    (Digital Soundboy)

    REDLIGHT (Lobster Boy)
DJ EZ (Kiss 100, Garage Legend)
    THE OTHERS (Dub Police)

    Music: Shox - Aztec EP [H2O 003]

Rinse FM resident DJ and House/Bass music producer Shox has gone on to announce the release of his latest EP: Aztec EP. Aztec EP features three tunes; 218, Aztec and Aztec (DJ Wonder Remix) that are set to be released on hunder2one recordingslater on this month (21st November)

After having pushed out successful releases in the past on the hundred2ONE label, Shox has gone on to compiling what is seemed to be a potential dance floor anthem with a lot of weight behind this EP release.

Since its 2011, it’s the year of future evolving music which Aztec EP has gone onto fusing the tribal house element with the future bass synth progression and uplifting drum pattern bringing back the head bopping “skank” whether that being on the dancefloor or on the underground during rush hour.

Our favourite track on the EP has to be the original version of Aztec since the simplicity yet catchy riffs and punchy drums brings back the memories of quality underground bass music and that 80’s down tempo disco vibe.

A Digitally Disturbed recommendation would be to watch out for the Wonder remix of Aztec as it fuses the old and new school element of house and disco music but also brings out the prolific signature bassline of a Wonder remix.

    Music: TC - Tap Ho

Whilst browsing through the realm of Youtube music videos,  we bumped into this drum n bass bad boy producer TC. TC has never failed to disappoint us with his grizzly basslines and authentic drum and bass drum patterns. This tune picked up off the UKF Drum and Bass channel is defiantly our lunch time head nodding anthem!
